Why choose Shared care?
Flexible healthcare
insurance for the UK with in-patient cover for Spain, Portugal and much of
Europe.
We are pleased to offer Shared Care - an exciting innovation in
private medical insurance which has been designed to offer you more control
over your costs.
The main key features of the plan:
- You can choose your own package of benefits to suit
your needs.
- By paying for part of the treatment costs yourself, you
can reduce the cost of your cover.
- Access to a treatment-sourcing service, via our
subsidary company Go Private, which could help you reduce the cost of
treatment.
Co-payment Shared Care is a
co-payment plan which means that you will pay part of the treatment costs
yourself in order to reduce your premiums. The minimum co-payment is 25%, but
you could choose to pay 50% of your treatment costs to reduce your premiums
even further.
Co-payment guarantee To give you
greater control and peace of mind over the amount you might have to pay in the
event of a claim, we have capped your share of eligible claims.
- With the 25% co-payment option you will make a maximum
contribution of £5,000 per person towards eligible claims each year.
- With the 50% co-payment option you will only pay a
maximum of £10,000 per person towards eligible claims each year.
The overall policy maximum is £100,000 per year,
howeveryou can be reassured that you are responsible for only paying up to
your co-payment maximum. (As with all policies, you will also need to
pay for treatment costs which are above the policy maximums or not covered by
the policy)

How Shared Care works Shared Care combines the
flexibility of a modular product, where you can choose the benefits you
require, with the ability to share your treatment costs with the Society to
lower your premiums.
As you will be paying part of the treatment costs
yourself, we realise that you will want to keep these costs as low as possible
and Go Private's treatment-sourcing service can help you to do this. As charges
can vary from hospital to hospital, Go Private can help find the most suitable
hospital for you based on both cost and location, and in some cases can save
you a substantial amount of money.
An example of how treatment
sourcing can help: The average cost of a hernia operation is
approximately £1500. With a co-payment of 25%, this would mean
that: We pay: £1125
You pay: £375
However, Go Private can
sometimes arrange hernia operations for as little as £1000 in certain
hospitals. With a co-payment of 25%, this would mean that: We pay: £750 You pay:
£250
Peace of mind With Shared Care, you have peace of mind
knowing that your private medical insurer has the expertise on which you can
rely, at a time when you need it most.
Premium Guarantees In addition, the Society's approach
to calculating your renewal premiums means that your premium will not increase
solely because you (as an individual) get older, provided that your cover
remains unchanged. The Society guarantees that your premium in any future
year will always be calculated with reference to the age at which you joined
the Society, for as long as you remain a member of the same plan with the same
cover. This means that you will pay a lower premium than an otherwise
identical member on the same plan and level of cover, provided you joined at an
earlier age.
The Choice of Underwriting Terms When applying for
cover, you will also have a choice of underwriting, either by completing a
medical questionnaire, or under our moratorium clause. Further details of these
methods, and how they might affect any claims that you may need to make are
given in the brochure, which can be downloaded for your
convenience.
Please refer to the brochure located in our literature
section. The Shared Care brochure may answer any questions you may have
regarding your options and the benefits available, an explanation of the
different types of underwriting, how a claim is processed, examples of
treatment costs and further information about Exeter Friendly Society and Go
Private.
If you have any further questions, or would like a personalised
quotation, one of our Customer Sales team would be delighted to help. Please
visit the Contact us page or alternatively choose Quote and apply to find how
competitive the premiums may be for you.
